if this is another one of those empty-minded postmodern mainstream rock songs that expresses exaggerated and unentitled feelings of despair and latent teenage angst, i won't play.

two things i don't do in music: ballads and pseudo-tragedies. like that one song by effervescence i think... how does it go... that backing vocal dude's all... 'wake me, i can't wake up!', while the chick's all 'how can you see into my eyes like open doors? leading you down, into my core. where I've become so numb, without a soul', yada yada.

i can't stand that song. every time i hear it i'm like 'you're a twenty year old metro-sexual gothic mod chick who works at restaruant second-shift (how the fuck do you spell resturant, anyway?) and plays video games during the day. the worst thing you got going for you is your late car insurance payment and that recent break-up with dennis, the guy you met at the dungeons and dragons convention last month. don't tell me about being spiritually numb, okay? you have no idea, kid.'

I tried to sing that but it doesn't flow.

    Try writing in a "meter".

    (no, not the Napoleonic length!)
