Decided to give myself a nice avatar. That's Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart -- supposedly.
He actually looked like this:
Supposedly.
Here's one of my favorite Mozart pieces:
Mostly, I like the "stormy" part that runs between 2:19 and 3:15. If I ever decided to buy myself a piano, or at least a keyboard, this would be the piece I would be working hard to learn to play.
You can hear it in this scene:
I also love that first piece. I also love the second one (which is Symphony No. 29.) In fact, I love all of them. And I would probably love that movie. I need to watch it someday. And it goes without saying that I absolutely love his Requiem.
What's your favorite Mozart piece, zootie? Don't tell me you don't have one.
this album is dedicated to david hume and his bundle theory of identity.
listen to the first song, which features holdsworth on guitar showcasing his impossible scales, and then when you've had enough, go to 13:33. as you listen, picture in your head david hume writing with quill by candlelight in his nightgown.
i go through phases where i'll go all the way with a band. today i started another b 52s binge.
see it all started in december of 2014. i just got out of prison after a four year bid and something moved me to try and find brandy, a girlfriend in san jose california, 1990. i found her online and we exchanged several emails. i was overcome with nostalgia and listened to 'roam' by the b 52s over and over again. that song just came out then and i remember hearing it on the radio and seeing the video on MTV, all the time during that summer. between the emails and the song, i was transported back in time.
but i handn't paid much attention to the b 52s otherwise, and only started investigating their music that winter or 2014. it then happened that i kinda got into it, and at the same time, i was just leaving NC to go to VA and live out of ludwig van. so now, the b 52s become once again subsumed by a nostalgic longing... this time as the band i was into when i just arrived in VA for the first time. when i listen to their stuff now, i'm transposted back to VA of 2014-2015.
i'm trying to figure out why i like them without writing an essay. i'll say that there is something about these unpretentious, quirky dorks and the simplistic sound they have, that impresses me somehow. it's catchy and something of a spectacle to watch them bounce around and act like total goof balls. i dunno man.
i think it's also the surprise and shock i feel when they break into a really good jam... like they shouldn't be doing that. i'm taken aback by this and then become even more impressed.
the whole song is good, but they really get down at 3:14
and i am transfixed by cindy bouncing around with that tambourine. she is so weird. both her and kate. wtf man.
this one was produced by david byrne of talking heads, and you can totally hear it. that signature casio keyboard and moog sound that byrne is always fucking with. in fact, you'd think it was the talking heads if you didn't know.
1. don't set your drum kit up on a mountain to film yourself playing a song. few things are more corny than that.
2. don't ever say "shooting this video was literally the most amazing experience i've ever had", because everybody knows you are lying. or at least you would hope they think you are lying, because if they don't, you probably need to get out more.
3. don't think you are so phenomenal that you need to change your name from [ insert typical white girl name ] to 'meytal'.
"With a note of music, one strikes the fundamental, and, in addition to the root note, other notes are generated: these are called the harmonic series...As one fundamental note contains within it other notes in the octave, two fundamentals produce a remarkable array of harmonics, and the number of possible combinations between all the notes increases phenomenally. With a triad, affairs stand a good chance of getting severely out of hand..." - Robert 'uncle Bobby' Fripp
John McLaughlin should be ashamed of himself. Writing a perfectly reasonable groove like this and then putting those stupid ass lyrics to it. Wtf was he thinking? Am I ready to be a planetary citizen? The answer to this enquiry is a decisive NO. You got some nerve asking me that.
Chick from Bolivia is by far the best. Better composition, doesn't have that generic hip-hop flavor, and you had to work more to arrange it. I should hope that you aren't messing with presets, fixed. What are you using.... software or a synthesizer device?
