If races are social constructs then so are species.
Understanding how evolution works.
Species do not evolve overnight...they evolve gradually, incrementally, or depending on the environmental stresses placed upon an isolated population that has been isolated from the original group.
Environment does not only affect body and not mind. This implies a mind/body divided.
Races are to humans what breeds, kind are for other species.
All biological categories are about potentials, not absolute, differences in substance.
We humans differ from chimpanzees only about 1.2%
Overlapping is part of genetic diversity.
Categories deal with an average.
To make it clear....males differ from females on their average body mass and intelligence...yet males occupy the top 1% and the bottom 1% of intelligence scales, and women cluster around the median.
This also applies to racial differences.
Race is not superficial. Appearances indicate essence.
Metaphysically appearances indicate the sum of all that preceded their appearance.
We do not need a chemical analysis, nor an expert because we've evolved to perceive essence as appearance. We do not require a scientist to tell us a dog is different from a fox, or a Polar bear is not the same as a black bear, or a horse is not the same as a zebra.
Animals judge using appearances as a matter of survival. The sense evolved for this purpose. to differentiate, using sense data the nature of other.
We do so easily and daily.
We need not know the chemistry to judge a banana's ripeness, or to distinguish apples from pears.
Appearances indicate a divergence. The more extreme the divergence the larger the divergence.
We knew we were genetically closer to chimpanzees than we were to cats, even before we had the knowledge and the technologies to verify this judgment.
Environment can nurture an individual's inherited potential, but it cannot alter it.
